About snapshots
A snapshot is a data volume that is stored in cloud storage.
Ephemeral supports both auto snapshots and user snapshots.
You can use either type of snapshot to start, reset, or reactivate an Ephemeral database.
Auto snapshots
Auto snapshots are snapshots that Ephemeral creates automatically. It reflects the state of a specific Ephemeral database at a specific point in time.
Ephemeral creates an auto snapshot when:
You start a database.
You reset a database.
The database expires.
You deactivate a database.
You reactivate a database.
User snapshots
User snapshots are not created automatically, and are not always associated with an existing Ephemeral database.
A user snapshot is created in one of the following ways:
You create a user snapshot from an existing database, to capture a specific state of the database.
You create a user snapshot from data that you import from an external source. For more information, go to Creating a user snapshot from imported data.
