About user snapshots

A user snapshot is a data volume that is stored in Ephemeral.

A user snapshot is created in one of the following ways:

• You create a user snapshot from an existing database, to capture a specific state of the database.

• You create a user snapshot from data that you import from an external source. For more information, go to Creating a user snapshot from imported data.

• Tonic Structural creates a user snapshot as the output of a Structural data generation. For more information, in the Structural documentation, go to Writing output to Tonic Ephemeral.

You can use a user snapshot to start a new database.

Ephemeral can also use a user snapshot that is created from an existing database to reactivate a database, if the snapshot is the most recent snapshot of that database.
