## Example filter queries for target collections <a href="#mongodb-hints-filter-target-collections" id="mongodb-hints-filter-target-collections"></a>

When you configure subsetting in a MongoDB workspace, to filter a target collection, you can use either a percentage or a filter query.

For example, a customers collection contains the customer first name, last name, and membership status, as shown in the following sample records:

```json
{
	"FirstName": "John",
	"LastName": "Smith",
	"Member": true
}
{
	"FirstName": "Jane",
	"LastName": "Doe",
	"Member": false
}
```

To filter the records to only include members, the filter query would be:

```
{"Member":true}
```

As another example, the following filter query checks whether the eighth character in an object ID called `_id` is equal to 9.

```json
{
    $expr: {
        $eq: [
        { $substr: [ { $toString: "$_id" }, 8, 1 ] },
        "9"
        ]
        }
    }
}
```

# Agent Instructions: Querying This Documentation

If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.tonic.ai/app/setting-up-your-database/mongodb/mongodb-hints-tips.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
